NCILA Message from the Executive Director:This July, The National Council on Independent Living will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. We have been through a quarter century with the Independent Living Movement and have seen monumental change come about through membership-driven advocacy efforts at the local, state, and Federal levels, but for those of you who may not be familiar with us, NCIL represents over 700 organizations and individuals including: Centers for Independent Living (CILs), Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs), Independent Living Associations, individuals with disabilities, and other organizations that advocate for the human and civil rights of people with disabilities throughout the United States. Since its inception, the National Council on Independent Living has carried out its mission by assisting member CILs and SILCs in building their organizational capacity to promote social change, eliminate disability-based discrimination, and create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in their communities. Membership Benefits include Action Alerts, the WhAM!, and our quarterly newsletter and interactive website. NCIL provides its members access to an expert advocacy and public policy staff who successfully lobby Congress on the issues that matter most to the disability community! With the continued efforts of our dedicated advocacy staff and Members, our presence as a powerful grassroots voice on Capitol Hill continues to be strong. It is our membership that makes this possible. For more information, please visit www.ncil.org. ****************************** |
